Bodrum Castle (Museum of Underwater Archaeology)
A magnificent 15th-century Crusader fortress built by the Knights Hospitaller on the ancient city's headland — now housing one of the world's finest underwater archaeology museums with Bronze Age shipwrecks, Carian gold treasure, ancient amphora, and the reconstructed hull of a 14th-century BCE vessel.
Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
The archaeological site of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — the grand tomb of Mausolus, ruler of Caria, built around 350 BCE. Much of the original marble was removed by the Knights of St John to build the castle, but the site reveals the foundations and partial reconstruction of this legendary structure.
Bodrum Amphitheatre
A well-preserved Hellenistic-era open-air theatre carved into the hillside north of the town centre — still used today for summer concerts and events, with seating for 13,000 and sweeping views across the bay towards Kos Island in Greece.
Bodrum Windmills Viewpoint
A row of historic stone windmills perched on the hilltop ridge above Bodrum town — an iconic Aegean skyline image. The walkable ridge path offers sweeping panoramic views across both the Bodrum Bay and the Gulf of Gökova, with the castle and marina visible below.
Bodrum Old Town Bazaar
Bodrum's atmospheric old bazaar district — whitewashed lanes of small shops selling hand-painted ceramics, leather goods, silver jewellery, cotton textiles, saffron, and evil eye beads, clustered around the Bodrum Bazaar Mosque and adjacent market streets.
Meyhane Milta Marina
A classic Turkish meyhane (tavern) on Bodrum marina serving an extensive selection of meze cold plates and the freshest local seafood: grilled sea bass, octopus casserole, garlic-fried calamari, and whole bream with lemon. Long communal tables, raki, and live music most evenings.
Turkish Breakfast at Bodrum Kahvaltı
A Bodrum institution for the legendary extended Turkish breakfast — a spread of 20+ small dishes: fresh white cheese, honey-and-clotted-cream kaymak, olive varieties, menemen (scrambled eggs with tomato and pepper), simit bread rings, cucumber, tomato, and strong black çay tea.
Turkish Ice Cream (Dondurma) at Köşem
Authentic Maraş-style Turkish ice cream (dondurma) made with sahlep (orchid flour) and mastic resin — the result is famously stretchy and chewy, resistant to melting, and served by theatrical vendors who tease customers with spinning cones and baton tricks.
Gümüşlük Balık Evi (Fish Restaurant)
In the beautiful fishing village of Gümüşlük — a cluster of wooden waterfront tables set right at the sea's edge serving catch-of-the-day fish (choose from the ice display) grilled whole, alongside meze, and local white wine as the sun sets over the Greek island of Kalymnos across the water.
Gümbet Beach
Bodrum's nearest and busiest proper beach — a wide arc of golden sand with calm, turquoise water in a sheltered bay. Water sports operators offer jet skis, parasailing, and pedalos. Lined with beach clubs, cafés, and sunlounger rentals.
Gümüşlük Rabbit Island (Tavşan Adası)
A tiny island off the village of Gümüşlük connected to the shore by a shallow causeway you can walk across knee-deep — the island has ancient Myndos ruins, wild rabbits, and extraordinary views. The calm, clear turquoise water on both sides is excellent for swimming and snorkelling.
Boat Trip to Kara Ada Hot Springs
A boat trip from Bodrum marina to Kara Ada (Black Island) — a volcanic islet with natural thermal hot springs inside a sea cave where the water emerges at 40°C, rich in iron and said to leave your skin glowing. After the cave, the boat anchors in a quiet turquoise cove for swimming.
Yalıkavak Marina
One of the Mediterranean's most upscale and beautiful marinas — a purpose-built luxury harbour on the northern Bodrum Peninsula surrounded by boutique hotels, designer restaurants, and a large artisan market on Fridays. The sunset views from the waterfront terrace restaurants are exceptional.
Türkbükü Village
The most exclusive village on the Bodrum Peninsula — a beautiful north-coast cove with a white-pebble beach, chic restaurants built over the sea on wooden platforms, and a decidedly glamorous atmosphere that has earned it the nickname 'St Tropez of Turkey'.
Bodrum Pottery Workshops
A cluster of Bodrum-speciality pottery workshops in the bazaar area selling the distinctive hand-painted Bodrum style ceramics — blue and white geometric patterns on terracotta jugs, plates, and bowls that are a regional tradition going back centuries, distinct from Iznik and Kütahya styles.
Ephesus Day Trip
One of the best-preserved ancient cities in the world — the marble streets, Library of Celsus façade, Great Theatre seating 24,000, and Temple of Hadrian are all standing and extraordinary. Though 140km from Bodrum, organised day tours make this manageable from a long port day.
Hadigari Bar (Bodrum Marina)
An iconic open-air bar on Bodrum's marina strip — wood-deck terraces with wicker furniture and sea views, cold Efes draft beer and raki cocktails, and a crowd that mixes yachties, locals, and well-travelled visitors. Perfect for a sundowner as the castle lights up gold at dusk.
Miam Beach Bar
A stylish beachfront bar-restaurant on Gümbet Bay — sun loungers, swim-up bar, cold drinks, and a beautiful turquoise sea view. By day a relaxed beach club, by evening the music gets louder and the crowd gets younger. Exactly the Aegean beach bar experience.
Kofeci Mehmet (Köfte Grill)
Bodrum's most celebrated köfte specialist — a no-frills, steam-filled grill restaurant in the bazaar streets where handmade Izmir-style köfte (spiced grilled meatballs) are served with fresh piyaz (white bean salad), grilled peppers, and handmade flatbread for an astonishingly low price.
Bodrum Textile & Fabric Market
Bodrum's dedicated fabric and textile market — rows of stalls selling hand-loomed cotton towels (peshtemal), hammam wraps, embroidered linen, and colourful Turkish cotton shirts and dresses at prices well below any boutique. The peshtemal towels are an exceptional buy.
