Mahahual Malecon (Beach Boardwalk)
Mahahual's laid-back waterfront promenade stretches along the Caribbean shore, lined with colourful restaurants, craft stalls, and hammock bars. The reef is visible just offshore, making it one of the most scenic town waterfronts on Mexico's Caribbean coast.
Chacchoben Mayan Ruins
One of the best-preserved pre-Classic Mayan sites in the region, deep in the jungle interior. Chacchoben's towering pyramids emerge dramatically from the forest canopy and date back to 200 BC — far less crowded than Tulum or Chichen Itza.
Laguna de Bacalar (Lake of 7 Colours)
One of Mexico's most spectacular natural wonders — a 42 km freshwater lagoon whose clarity and depth create mesmerising shades of turquoise, green, and cobalt blue. The lakeside town of Bacalar has cenotes, historic forts, and kayak rentals.
Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve
Mexico's largest coral atoll and one of the last pristine reef systems in the Caribbean — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Famous for its 'crocodile dive', where saltwater crocodiles rest on sunken shipwrecks in crystal-clear water.
Nohoch Kay Restaurant
A beloved Mahahual institution perched right on the beach, serving fresh-caught ceviche, grilled whole fish, and ice-cold micheladas. The sand-floor setting and palm-thatch roof make it the quintessential Caribbean lunch.
Costa de Cocos Restaurant
A casual open-air restaurant on the Mahahual waterfront known for its generous portions of grilled lobster, shrimp tacos, and cold Mexican beer. A favourite with returning cruise visitors.
La Pepita Taqueria
A tiny, brilliantly authentic taqueria tucked just off the malecon, run by a local family. The al pastor tacos, freshly made tortillas, and habanero salsas are the real deal — not a tourist menu in sight.
Xcalak Reef Bar & Grill
A breezy beachfront grill in Mahahual with spectacular reef views and a menu built around the freshest local seafood — whole snapper, coconut shrimp, and fish tacos. The hammocks strung between palms make it hard to leave.
Costa Maya Pier Food Court
The pier complex's own food court with a range of stalls serving Mexican favourites, snacks, and light bites without needing to leave the port area. Convenient for a quick bite between excursions.
Mayan Beach Bar
The most popular beach bar in Mahahual — plastic chairs in the sand, buckets of beer on ice, and a soundtrack of reggaeton and reggae. The perfect afternoon spot after swimming the reef.
El Pirata Bar
A characterful, pirate-themed watering hole in the heart of Mahahual village with cold cervezas, rum cocktails, and a reliably lively crowd of locals and cruisers mixing happily.
Pier Side Bar & Grill
Located within the cruise pier complex, this open-air bar is the most convenient option for a cold drink on the way back to the ship. Serves cocktails, beers, and basic bar food.
Mahahual Beach Café
A relaxed little café on the malecon serving good espresso, fresh tropical fruit juices, and light breakfasts. The shaded terrace overlooks the turquoise Caribbean — ideal for a slow morning start.
Coconut Café (Pier Complex)
The pier's own café offering cold drinks, coffee, smoothies, and packaged snacks. Handy for caffeinating before heading out or grabbing a last drink before boarding.
Mahahual Beach
A gorgeous stretch of white-sand Caribbean beach right in front of Mahahual village, with calm, shallow, reef-protected water in vivid shades of turquoise. Part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef lies just offshore — some of the best snorkelling accessible from any beach in Mexico.
Uvita Beach (Remote)
A wild, undeveloped stretch of beach 6 km south of Mahahual, almost entirely deserted even on busy ship days. The water is crystal clear, and the lack of beach bars means the only sounds are waves and tropical birds.
Chacchoben Ruins & Jungle Tour
A guided tour to the impressive Chacchoben Mayan ruins, deep in the Yucatán jungle. A bilingual archaeologist guide explains the astronomical significance of the pyramids and the history of this once-thriving pre-Classic city, then explores the surrounding jungle trail.
Bacalar Lagoon Day Trip
A full-day excursion to the magical Lake of 7 Colours — swimming in the crystal-clear cenotes, kayaking across the lagoon's mesmerising colour gradients, visiting the Fuerte San Felipe fort, and a traditional Mexican lunch in Bacalar town.
Snorkel Mesoamerican Barrier Reef
A guided snorkel tour along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the second-largest coral reef system on earth. Spot nurse sharks, eagle rays, sea turtles, and hundreds of tropical fish species in exceptional clarity.
Kayak & Paddleboard Tour (Mahahual)
A guided kayak and paddleboard tour along Mahahual's pristine reef-protected coast, exploring mangrove channels and snorkelling the shallow reef gardens. Perfect for all fitness levels with the water rarely exceeding knee depth.
